My name is Rachel and this is a site to talk about a point of view that often gets forgotten – support for families who support a loved one struggling with their mental health. It’s something I never thought I would be so invested in, but life takes you down different paths and you find yourself dealing with things you never dreamed would happen to you.
With that comes more responsibility, stress and heartache.
In 2018 after struggling to understand everything myself, I made the leap and returned to school. This summer, 2023, I graduated with my BA in Psychology. I also completed my Certificate of Law, which will be completed in 2024. It is my hope, that with my education and experience, I can create a space that sheds some light on what family members go through and what they can do to access support. I want this space to also be free of shame and judgement.
I also want to focus on the well-being of the care-giver – I’m not talking about manicures or getting a latte – although that is important for down time, I’m talking about the deep stuff – the regrets, the hurt, grieving, finding community and also the whole-health renewal.
I wanted to provide resources and helpful directions as you navigate this journey – something I would have appreciated when this all started.
Community is important and I hope we can build it together.
