Resources

1–2 minutes

Ten years ago I stood in the middle of an ER with a doctor saying words like Bipolar and Psychosis… at the same time that I was relieved to have a name to what we were dealing with… I was also very confused.

In 2018 I returned to school to get my degree in Psychology and if I can say anything… it’s that learning empowered me! If I had access to resources for even my most simple questions when I was going through the worst of it…. I might have felt less isolated.

This is why putting together a Resource Page was so important to me. I want to provide helpful resources that I hope will empower you as well.

This Resource Page will always be growing and evolving. It consists of books, podcasts, articles and other helpful tools. If you would like to submit a recommendation to be added to this list, there is a form I would love for you to fill out. Access the Resource Page through our Resources on our menu, or below:

Resources are vital, just like this post says, but, some resources are not valuable.
I did receive support and encouragement from several Facebook groups when I was with my partner with severe mental illness; however, like all social media, sometimes you have to skim comments, or skim other peoples’ stories to prevent yourself from getting bogged down.
Sometimes, advice is harsh. Sometimes advice is extreme. Sometimes these resources can be toxic.
I joined a Facebook group specifically for loved ones of someone who is suffering from Bipolar Disorder and after awhile, I did not feel so alone. I was able to communicate what was happening as an anonymous source.

But..the time did come when the group became toxic. It became so negative that my hope of change in my own relationship was really hard to think I would achieve.

So, yes use social media but always always with a filter.

The best resources are the professionals. Those that have initials after their names! lol! And this does not include “influencer”! 🙂
